The room we were moved to after complaining about the original room we had been given was more than satisfactory. It was clean, well-decorated and spacious. The hotel bars were comfortable and welcoming, and the breakfast service was very quick.
When we saw the first room we were given, we were horrified. The paint was peeling from the ceiling, there was an ancient T.V. (but no remote control), the room was small, gloomy, but worst of all the bedding was stained. We decided we could not sleep in the room, and contacted reception, who allocated us another room within ten minutes. The new room was entirely different-it was spacious, cheerful and looked as if it had recently been re-furbished. As it had a sea view, we paid an extra 20 pounds for the two nights, and we really enjoyed our stay.
The location of the hotel
£6 charge per night to reserve parking Freezing bathroom. Bedroom clean but a bit shoddy..
The sea view from the bedroom was beautiful.
How the mirror was behind the television, made it hard to get ready infront of the mirror.
We enjoyed a very pleasant warm spacious second floor family room with a simply stunning seaview over Scarborough's North Bay. The hotels location was excellent. Tip: Book your car parking at the hotel in advance, spaces are limited. A space will be reserved for your whole stay...NB extra cost.
The waiting staff in the restaurant were slow monosyllabic automotons, and were bordering on rude when asked the simplest requests. The bar, reception and room service staff were the exception and very kind and helpful.
The views and location and excellent. We only needed overnight stay as a group and you were able to accommodate us all at a very reasonable price
Hotel needs a re-vamp re carpets and decor - especially third floor
hotel is in a good location and it was clean.
the decor is dated, the lift is tiny and noisy, the prices for breakfast and evening meal are expensive. the room was not refreshed during our stay.
I liked the peaceful location of the hotel, and the friendliness of all the staff. We had a lovely comfortable room where you also had a part sea view.
There was nothing i didn't like about the Hotel, the decor in the hallways was a bit tatty but hay i wasn't there for an interior design make-over. The room was clean, bright and very welcoming.
Upon arrival, the 'reserved' parking space was marked with my name which was very efficient. The staff were exceptionally helpful, polite and attentive...service offered was far in excess of this hotel's offficial rating. The room was comfortable although a little 'tired' but there are many signs that the hotel generally is being gradually 'rejuvenated'! Food was extremely good quality and value for money (Booked in advance, the three course evening meal was only £15.00 a head).
Unfortunately we were only able to stay one night and arrived late evening but I would return. The view from our room was fantastic and I could have sat watching the sea all day! Breakfast and service was very good.
I travelled with my sister and she was wary of the lift but now we are older the stairs were an effort.
Really lovely bedroom. Great location, 10 minutes' walk to town centre but nice and quiet. Nice breakfast room, not overcrowded like some hotels. Staff friendly and pleasant. Pretty much everything you need, really.
The world's slowest toasters. But seriously, this is the only (tiny) thing I could find wrong with the place.
We stayed in the 'Turret' room, which has a fabulous view over the North Bay. It is also the room that Wilfred Owen stayed in. The staff were friendly and the hotel is in a great location. It's handy for the North Bay, Marine Drive and fairly close to town.
The staff were excellent, Liz the receptionist and Lucy behind the bar were both friendly polite and good at their jobs.
Overall this hotel has been neglected and could do with some care and attention both inside and out.
Food as good as one could wish for. Staff courteous friendly and helpful. Room well appointed.(493) We enjoyed a relaxing break after both being in hospital. We have stayed at the Clifton before and certainly will do again.
Room cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The bin in the bathroom was not emptied all week. Cups were not washed properly and towards the end of the week we noted that the bed was being straightened, not made properly.
The hotel had a lovely atmosphere, the staff were friendly and the food was excellent. It was all done up for Christmas which looked very nice.
Too many negatives to say anything positives
Needs a lot of money spending on it carpet on 3rd and 4th floor was thread bare on stairs floors creaked and not level you had to slam room door . breakfast was just thrown on plate. Should have stayed english rose hotels it was good then. Tea was rubbish in dining room so was the coffee orange juice watered down everything was done on cheap and it showed could not sleep as doors were banged all night no we will not be staying again
