breakfast was very good & staff polite
hotel was very dated, also did'nt help that there was a very strong smell of paint as the lounge & bar area were being painted by contractors.the hotel also seems to cater for the more senior citizen
the best thing about our stay was the excellent sea view from the north bay to the castle
cleanleness was not good and the room had damp with mould on the wall.
A clean and classic designed hotel that is efficiently run, from the car park space reserved as requested to the early morning breakfast served 2 hours before normal breakfast time. Altogether a pleasureable stay in a mainly unmolested building. Special thanks to Liz for sorting everything from a taxi to arranging breakfast servedby the friendly night porter who made the best toast I've had for a long time, and plenty of it too. I'll be back.
The location was a priority as the cricket groung is only a 5 minute walk,
Cleanliness, worn furniture and facilities
We went to watch cricket and the hotel is very near to and convenient for the cricket ground. We had a lovely sea view from our bedroom window although we did have to pay £50 extra for that The car parking was well organised. We reserved and paid for a parking space in the hotels car park and our reservation was clearly marked and kept available for us.
The decor at the hotel is very tired and in parts it is quite grubby. The lift worked but is ancient. There were lights around the passageways and in the dining room where bulbs had gone but not been replaced. In our bedroom the carpets were frayed and coming away from the strips at the doors. The bathroom was lit with spot lights, two of which were not working. The television was old and when switched on made a clicking sound almost continuously. The standard of the cleaning service was poor. When we arrived there was a used piece of soap and a shower gel wrapper presumably from previous guests on the soap dish in the bathroom. This was never removed during our stay
Nice and quiet and comfortable
The one and only lift, although it worked reasonably well,is a bit antiquainted,--not easily operated by old or infirm clients.
I went to the Clifton As I was watching cricket round the corner only 3 minutes away so the location was excellant./Hotel was good but really the owners should spend money on refurbmishment of the rooms. Ideal for a single person for 2-3 nights but beyond that not really suitable.I Appreciate these seaside towns do not get the people they used to get but if they spent a bit of money on general mainteance and remedial work it would certainly pay dividends
Room View of Sea
Could not park on site, and front of hotel needs painting, plus interior decor needs attention, paper peeling off in Dining Room!.
location and sea view exellant breakfast good.
needs a decor update ie curtains carpets
Lovely sea view. Nice walk along the north prom to Scarborough harbour, and the sea front shops amd cafe's.
Once past the door man they were very helpful and good to us
This room was booked for family attending a wedding and though their name had been given, and they had details of booker, booking, reservation numbers etc they still had difficulty at the door, not good when it had been booked for a disabled person and spouse...
The room had a fantastic sea view, the location was great and breakfast was good.
The hotel really needs attention as it had a general feeling of being tired and a little run down. Our room particularly had peeling wallpaper and the bathroom had paper hanging off the ceiling. We did not get a shower either and were told that we should have put this down as a special request. Having said this, the staff were very helpful and the room was clean.
Location and staff.
In dire need of renovation; ancient plumbing, damp in main corridors, skirting coming away from the walls, paint peeling (inside and out)...
This hotel is in an excellent location;however the decor is very poor, worse than the cheapest B&B!
Please spend some money on this hotel,it needs updating.
I always stay at the Clifton, when money permits! We have always loved the Clifton due to its location.
I think charging to use the hotel car park is a bit cheeky
